7 Reasons Why Guest Blogging is Important For Your Blog's Success

Blogging is no doubt one of the best ways to build a successful blog and grow your online business but a lot of people are still confused as to whether to start guest blogging or not. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an individual blogger or a large corporation looking to take your business to the next level, guest blogging can help you in the following ways.

1). Exposure
Great, high quality content has become even more important as more readers are getting the majority of their news and information online instead of nightly television news programs or newspapers. This means that there is a flood of content being published each day, and the more websites a person or company is mentioned on, the better (not only from a human perspective, but also a search engine perspective).

In the advertising world, companies know that a potential customer must be exposed to an ad multiple times before they begin tying positive feelings or subconscious recognition of the product or brand.

The same could be said for the online presence of a company and its individuals. Not only do authors with published guest posts on a wide variety of websites get more exposure, they get more opportunities to craft a positive association in readers’ minds.

2. Get Quality Traffic
The number one advantage of guest blogging and why a lot of people are investing their time in it is the quality traffic it sends. My guest posts have been published on several big blogs in the blogging and make money online niche and aside the other benefits involved, one great advantage of this is the quality traffic it sends. Most of the time I get as much as 500 visitors from guest blogging on a big blog and I sometimes get over 1,000 visitors from writing a single guest post on a big blog.

When it comes to getting a lot of visitors from my guest posts on these blogs I’m not just talking about the number of traffic, but the quality. After all, I’ve gotten as much as 2000 visitors from Stumbleupon in only one day but the fact is not all traffic is equal. While visitors from stumbleupon spend an average of 1 second on my blog and result in a 90% bounce rate those from my guest posts spend as much as 4 minutes on my site and only have a very low bounce rate of around 40%.

Here’s a traffic screenshot from one of my guest posts to backup my point.

3). Credibility
Positive association with brand names definitely drives credibility for individual authors and the companies for which they write. An author who has been published on sites like Huffington Post or Marketing Land will most likely be seen as more credible in their field than someone who has no guest posts at all. It can be difficult to get approved as a guest writer or contributor for top industry sites, so starting with smaller blogs and using them as a portfolio will start creating the online credibility that will only grow once the author has been published on more popular sites. It also helps to mention any type of experience that may lead to better posts, such as continuing education (e.g. conferences or additional certifications) or recent client experiences.

Guest blogging on popular industry sites can also lead to greater opportunities that go beyond writing posts for additional websites and blogs. They often lead to actual sales of products and services, speaking engagements, and increased website traffic for both the publisher and the author.

4. Build Online Influence
How great is your influence? When I talk about influence I’d like you to know that I’m not talking about authority or expertise. I’m talking about real influence, which can be positive or negative, and which has a lot to do with how many people you can impact. Guest blogging on other blogs bigger than yours is a great way to impact the lives of others and make them have a good memory of you for the rest of their lives. You might be wondering if it isn’t possible for you to influence people on your own blog but the truth is you will reach far more people by combining the audiences’ of other bloggers together compared to when you stand alone.

5). Inbound Links
Increased website traffic is one of the main reasons why many writers choose to begin guest blogging in the first place. Most websites allow writers to submit a bio and/or their social media profile URLs to be published at the end of the post. These links drive referral traffic and boost organic search rankings, resulting in better search visibility for the author’s website.

Because the guest blog post provides inbound links, it’s important to provide only high-quality content. Link building is almost always worthwhile, as inbound links play the biggest role in the search engine ranking algorithm. In addition, thoughtful, useful, and valuable content that gets traffic and steady engagement will help you publish more regularly at each publisher with whom you work.

6). Develop Authority
How long does it take for a new blogger to build his/her authority and become respected in his/her niche? I know your answers might vary and there are even people who will say it takes years, but the fact is it only took me around 8 months because of the power of guest blogging. With guest blogging you can easily get yourself associated with some of the top bloggers in your niche and when people start seeing your name coming across all their blogs’ they will start giving you the kind of respect they give them.

7).  Improve Your Writing
When I was still a new blogger I used to write guest posts on a large scale and then submit these guest posts to various blogs. I write these guest posts by inspiration and my spirit keeps on flowing whenever I write one so I always see my work as the best. But one d1ay, I submitted my guest post to a particular blog and the blogger replied that he can’t even determine whether the post is good or not because he can’t read the post – that my writing is so bad.

I was so angry that I made up my mind to submit the post to another blog, but after giving it a second thought I considered the fact that there might be some truth to what this blogger is saying so I reread and edited the post, and it was published.

One major lesson I learnt from this is to always proofread my posts. It doesn’t matter how great, inspirational, or emotional your content is. It is of no use if others can’t read it so guest blogging helps you know what others think about your writing and it also ensures you take the right steps to make sure your writing improves.

If you want to know what I mean take a look at my latest blog posts and the ones I wrote in the early days of this blog. You will notice there is a clear difference!
